What is a DHI hair transplant?
DHI stands for Direct Hair Implantation. Once the follicles have been extracted one by one with the FUE technique, they need to be placed back into the areas where the patient has lost hair. With DHI, this is done using instruments called implanters, or implanter pens.
How do implanter pens work?
Each follicle is loaded into an implanter and placed directly into the scalp. This gives precise control over three things that determine whether a transplant looks natural:
- The angle at which each hair grows.
- The direction, so it follows your natural growth pattern.
- The density, distributing follicles according to your case and donor area.
Why implantation matters so much
A transplant doesn’t look natural just because of how much hair there is — it’s about how the hair is placed. At the hairline, for example, the goal is a soft transition and a direction that mimics natural hair; at the crown, respecting the whorl. Direct implantation makes it possible to care for these details follicle by follicle.
